I am a longtime passionate cyclist (I even have a recumbent) yet I also deeply despise bicycle clubs. Why? They love to talk about "rules" but gladly break any they choose.

Prospect Park in Brooklyn most weekday mornings has some racing club zipping round and round The Loop, damned if anyone gets in their way. They will scream at you about "the rules" but they themselves never brake for a red light. Who turned the park into their own private raceway?

Ask them that question and they will very smugly tell you all you need to know about some community board meeting or other at which they all petitioned successfully to have their rules adopted. Yet, as noted, they NEVER brake for a red light to allow park pedestrians to cross the road!

It's a park, people. If you feel so tough, go race with the motorists!

Still in my long term plan (1-2 years) to move back to PDX and buy a house. I'm super jealous! I want my own place to fix up :) If I haven't said it already, congrats! I'll be in town next weekend, I'd love to stop by and check out your new place.
